Organizing the Timing of Your Office Relocation

Moving house can be difficult enough but you add in a whole new set of complications when relocating an entire business. You want to try to create as seamless a transition as possible and getting the timing right for your move can make all the difference as to how smoothly the process runs. As experts in office removals Perth, we’ve seen our fair share of office relocations and are here to discuss how you can master the timing for your office relocation.

Give yourself plenty of time

People often underestimate just how much work is involved with moving an entire office so the best tip we can give you is to make sure you plan your office relocation well ahead of time. For a small office, you want to give yourself at least three months planning time and with a larger office it needs to be six to eight months. This will give you sufficient time to organise staff members, prepare clients and create a timeline of tasks.

Avoid peak moving season

Most people aim to move house in the warmer months and which means this is the busiest time for removalists. Choosing the cooler months means that moving companies will have more availability to help you out. If you do have to move during peak times, book your removalist well in advance to avoid panic at the last minute. You may also need to consider the weather at the time of year you move but luckily, if you’re located in Perth you don’t need to worry too much about rain as there are there are generally enough gaps in the weather for moving to take place.

Mid-week moving

Planning your actual move for mid-week may seem counter intuitive but this is often a good option if you want to ensure that your removalist is available and that you’re not paying a weekend rates. However, if this will impact too much on productivity, you can compromise by organising the move on a Friday so the unpacking can occur over the weekend. Whichever option you choose, make sure you let clients know ahead of time that there will be disruptions.

Move in the middle of the month

When you’re planning ahead, it’s easy just to choose a random move date in the future without thinking. However, it’s important that you plan moving day (or week!) to a time when you’re not going to be too busy and for most businesses that generally means the middle of month. Avoid the end of the month if you can – you don’t want to coincide moving with your busiest time.
